I hope you have all had a wonderful summer and welcome you all back to our new school year. We have had a busy start to our year together, despite the children only being back in school for three days!

Our INSET day on Tuesday focused on developing children's depth of knowledge and understanding and how we can encourage all children to take risks in their learning and step outside their comfort zone to challenge themselves to achieve their very best.

We will be referring to this with the children as 'Diving for Pearls' in their learning, rather than 'Paddling' or 'Snorkelling' so don't be surprised if you hear children (and staff) referring to this over the coming weeks and months!

It was wonderful to see the children arriving smart and ready for their new year group to begin on Wednesday morning. It was a particular delight to see our Reception children looking so proud of their school uniforms and they have started their year superbly this week joining in lunchtimes, assemblies and playtimes full of confidence.

Our Key Stage 2 classes headed to Manchester Regional Athletics Arena yesterday to watch the Sainsbury's 2015 School Games. The Games are a multi-sport event for the UK's elite young athletes of school age and the children will be using it as a stimulus for work on 'inspiring and achieving'.

Classes throughout school have started their new topics for this term which range from Animals, Local History and Geography of the Audlem area and Ancient Civilisations. I have already seen some great questions being generated across school which the children are keen to find answers to!

We have welcomed a number of new teaching staff to school this week. Mr Morrey, Mrs Jones and Mrs Brett joined our Key Stage 1 team whilst Mrs Bird and Mr Perry join the Key Stage 2 team. We also welcomed Mrs Taylor to our Office Team and Mrs Smallwood to our team of Midday Assistants – we are delighted to have them all join our school.

I am also delighted to inform you that Mrs Burgess gave birth to a little girl during the Summer. We send our congratulations and best wishes to both Mrs Burgess and her family at this very special time.

Miss Danha has been unable to join us for the start of term but we look forward to welcoming her back to school soon.
