Many will now know of the United Utilities water main replacement down Woore Road into the village.
Last night water supplies were interrupted again by a large burst which, according to the workman I spoke to this morning, was repaired only to burst again, resulting in a large volume of water running down into Mount Pleasant. The work involves sleeving the old main with a new plastic one inserted inside the old pipe. The multiple holes are necessary for new connections to be made to the properties.
Yesterday afternoon we experienced liquid mud running from our taps and grit affecting one of the toilet fittings, resulting in persistent overflow problems. We have not used the dishwasher or washing machine until the remaining work is completed for risk of damage.
As we appear to be one of the first areas in the village to have our water main renewed, I thought it might be helpful to let others know what they may shortly experience. It’s a situation of short-term pain for long term gain.
Salford is scheduled for an open trench on Friday as they renew our smaller main supply, which has been subject to multiple bursts over the last three decades or more. Good to see that U.U. are finally getting to grips with the problem, but don't expect any road closed signs until next month!
