The Astronomy department at Brine Leas School have kindly passed on the information below. Since the eclipse is one of the more reliable predictions to appear on this website, we thought it worth letting people know about it.
Brine Leas has some special equipment for looking directly at the sun, which should give a prime view of the eclipse of the sun expected at 9.30 am this morning. This removes any possible damage to eyesight which can result from looking directly at the sun.
Senior Science Technician, Stewart Pirie, and Creative Arts Technician, James Hope, have arranged for a live stream of their observation of the eclipse to appear on youtube.
Click here to see the broadcast.
This live broadcast should start at around 8.15am right through totality at 9.30am (when 90% of our view of the sun will be covered) and continuing until the sun is in full working order again.
It has to be said that we (i.e. AudlemOnline) have no idea whether the equipment that Brine Leas intend to use is located on a satellite that they have launched specially for the purpose, or indeed whether their equipment can "see" through any clouds that may be about this morning to spoil the event – it should be fun to watch the youtube "feed" to find out.
