Are you interested in how local government works and how much councillors are paid?

Cheshire East Council is seeking to recruit five people living or working in the Borough to become members of its Independent Remuneration Panel.

The Independent Remuneration Panel will be responsible for advising the authority on the way in which its elected members are reimbursed for their public service.

The term of office for the successful candidates will be three years, with the panel meeting up to four times between September and January.

A meeting allowance of £30 will be paid to each panel member, plus any travel expenses.

Councillor Michael Jones, Cabinet member for resources said: "We are looking for five people living or working in the borough with a keen interest in democracy and the workings of a local authority.

"The way our members are reimbursed for public service is of interest to many – we want this process to be an open one – therefore, any advisory role should be independent of the Council.
"I look forward to the formation of this panel in the coming months."

Anyone interested in applying for the role should contact Cheshire East Council democratic services team manager Paul Jones by phone: on 01270 686 458;

Applicants must not be politically active or have any relationship with councillors or the Council or any of its employees.

The closing date for applications is Friday, December 23, 2011.
