With rural shops vital to local communities, it was very good news for Audlem when a new shop opened in the village late last year. In one of an occasional series on local businesses, today Audlem Online features Village Feeds in the Square.

Operated by Alan and Rachel Brown, and their daughters Emma and Vicki, the shop in the very heart of the village is a dedicated pet food and wild bird feed business. Alan says he and the family have been overwhelmed with support they have had from local people since they opened last November and wants to say a very big "thank you" to everyone.

The shop contains a wide choice of pet food; pet sundries; treats and toys; animal health products; bird feeds and feeders and equine sundries and supplements. Popular brands include Hills, Bakers, Beta, Felix, Whiskas, Pedigree, Natures Feast, Guardman and Bamfords while for the equine enthusiast NAF, Top Spec, Baileys and Spillers products are also readily available. Alan also says that if he hasn't got it, he can get it!

Since the November opening of the shop, Village Feeds has proved an ideal accompaniment to the family's other business, Manor Farm Livery and Feeds, which is based in Coole Lane, just a mile outside the village. Here, the family has hay, shavings, bagged farm feeds and an extensive range of horse feeds from all the major manufacturers, plus lots, lots more for animals. There's also product lines for gardeners including lawn care, compost, bark mulch and garden sundries, all adding to the family firm's growing range of products.

Of the new shop, Alan says: "We may not be the largest in the world but we can find anything the animal lover wants." He can also arrange local deliveries for bulky items, so pop in to see what's on offer, whether for an animal or the garden, and if you can't find it, Alan and his family will track it down for you.
