Whilst the key reason for the field's purchase was to protect it from unwanted development and preserve it as a natural space, public meetings and an online survey confirmed that developing a green car park at the top of the field was a popular and key benefit to Audlem.
As a brief summary, the surface of the car park is to be sympathetic to the surroundings and that a mesh, mat, grid or similar turf reinforcement product is the preferred type of solution. Obviously, a system that is robust/proven and relatively maintenance-free would be desirable.
Other key elements would be creating an approved access with a secure entrance, gate & fencing at the existing entrance on Green Lane, given approval by CE Highways and Planning.
The current pedestrian access onto Shropshire Street would also need to be modified so as to accommodate those with mobility difficulties.
To progress with this project, Audlem Parish Council needs to engage a suitably qualified and experienced Traffic/Civil Engineer to draw up a detailed design for Planning Approval and to facilitate detailed quotations.
They feel that somebody with a background in Traffic/Highway/Car Park Engineering would be preferable.
So, is there anyone in Audlem who matches the requirements for this brief – either on a voluntary or paid basis??
Failing that, does anyone know of a suitable candidate that could be approached??
Please send any suggestions/comments or questions to the Parish Clerk:
