Ralph Warburton writes: "I just felt the need to write to explain how much living here is so very wonderful and full of many pure diamonds.

"Early in the week we met as a team to plan the Music & Arts Festival for May, followed by Quiz night at the Bridge and on to the Bingo in the Public Hall on Friday- organised by Geoff and Olive Stretch. Then on Saturday, a call from folks wanting to have stalls at the Carnival and at the Festival of Transport. Plus a call from the War Graves Commission from Salisbury, asking me to locate the grave of a soldier – born in Buerton – and who died a few days after Armistice Day. I found his grave and gave the information to the Commission. He died on December 5th 1918.

"Then to the Coffee Lounge for their excellent cappuchino and super warm scones, reading my papers, bought from McKelveys. Also meeting folks there and hearing how well they thought the Big Christmas tree had been, saying they bring folks here to see Audlem at Christmas. A great feeling of well-being for all there in the warmth of the Coffee lounge.

"Then in the evening to the Bridge with my son Christopher for a couple of pints and to do the crosswords. A Neil Diamond tribute singer, "Diamond Geezer" was performing there to a packed pub – including lots of "out of towners" and in a tremendous atmosphere. On to the Fabulous Chilli night at the Scout Hall, put on by Pete Marshall and Ian Haughey along with Jane and Elizabeth. A tremendous crowd of some 250, ranging in age from 7 to 70, enjoying superb original music and a great togetherness. A safe, happy event with many teenagers having good clean fun in safe and caring surroundings.

"To top it all, Liverpool win in the dying seconds of their match and go top of the league. What a great place to live in. What a great place to be part of. If we could package what we have here and export it, we could solve the many worries of the world!

"Audlem is truly the jewel in the crown of Cheshire and I bless the day we stumbled on the area over 20 years ago and bought our house here. Long may it continue. It makes one very proud of this lovely village."
