This week's Chronicle features Richard Furber, chairman of Audlem Parish Council, planting a tree next to the village playing field to celebrate Audlem's recent award of the Best Kept Village in the Community Pride awards run by Cheshire Community Council.

Commenting on Audlem's success, Richard said: "We are the only village in the Crewe & Nantwich Borough to have won an award this year and in honour of that we were presented with the tree which we have planted on our playing field. Out of 120 points available we were awarded 105."

"The panel of judges came unannounced to see Audlem in its more natural state," Richard said. "It's not like the Britain in Bloom awards when they give you time to prepare. We are delighted and they were really impressed by the lack of graffiti in the village."
