From the beginning of April, the local Hospital Car Service which has been successfully run for many years by Audlem & District Amenities Society (ADAS) has been transferred to Audlem & District Community Action ADCA following discussions between everyone involved.
The Hospital Car Service has now been incorporated into ADCA's Voluntary Car Service which already takes people to ADCA's Day and Coffee Clubs and to local social events.
People who want to make a request for voluntary transport to health appointments at local hospitals, clinics or to Audlem Medical Practice need to contact the new ADCA Voluntary Driving Service telephone number – 01270 747163.
People can ring at anytime as there is an answer phone on which information can be left about the date and time of the appointment, the destination and people's name, address and contact telephone number. The answerphone is checked daily and people will be
contacted as soon as possible to confirm arrangements. As much notice as possible is requested of appointments.
Because ADCA has been recently been successful in obtaining a £6,000 grant from Cheshire East Council for helping with rural transport schemes, the Voluntary Car Service is a subsidised one and is aimed at disadvantaged people over the age of 18 who cannot otherwise get to health appointments or take part in social activities.
People using the service will be asked to make a contribution if possible towards the
mileage costs of the volunteers which is will be about half of the full cost.
If people need an escort to help at the hospital or clinic then family members or friends can also transported. ADCA can also provide a voluntary escort to assist if necessary.
Following a kind offer from Graham Tressider for ADCA to have a small office within the Nantwich Funeral Service shop on Shropshire Street, from May onwards it is hoped that the ADCA office will be open each Monday and Thursday mornings so people can call in to book the Voluntary Car Service. More information on this will be given shortly.
