Wow what an absolute delight to attend the first performance of the 5a's performance Traesure Island written by Colin Cliffe, we all know that Colin has had a couple of years out but he has returned with a bang. The script is an absolute corker with something for the whole family, packed from start to finish with nonstop gags innuendos and double entendre a plenty. The very talented cast were perfectly positioned into their roles to deliver this hilarious almost farcical adaptation of this classic tale of skulduggery and deceit.

Rob Tovey leads the line as the outrageous man hungry dame widow manly (and a more manly dame I have never seen) supported brilliantly by Cat Maddocks as the bumbling inept Captain Smollet and Helen Katterloher as the fearsome scheming Long john Silver. Together they set off in search of treasure with the strangest group of pirates you will ever, ever see, with fantastic performances from the whole crew.

Once aboard the Hispaneola, a 16 foot galleon with full sail (yes that's right, a 16 foot galleon – the props department have pulled out all the stops this year), the adventure really begins. Eventually arriving at skeleton Island they encounter all manner of even stranger characters, the deranged cheese mad Benn Gunn (played by Colin Cliffe) and head of all the cannibals Chief Bum Bum, brilliantly played by Paul (man of a hundred accents) Turner.

With many fantastic songs and dances entwined throughout this tale from the very talented chorus this production is a real treat for all the family, as usual the costumes albeit somewhat strange in places are as always spectacular.

This production really is a credit to the whole of the 5a's production team and I can only suggest that if you do not yet have a ticket go and buy one today you will not be disappointed.

Well done one and all
