A boy from Audlem has been given a special bedroom makeover by Make-A-Wish Foundation® UK, the charity that grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses.

Liam Broadhurst, who is aged nine and living with a neurodegenerative disorder, had his room transformed on Monday 21st February with new furniture, bedding and curtains all featuring the colourful cast of characters from Disney's Toy Story series.

Liam's neurodegenerative disorder means that he is unable to communicate verbally and requires full-time care. He is unable to go to school as he picks up infections easily and so spends much of his time at home.

His favourite film is Toy Story – so he was delighted to have a room that featured Sheriff Woody, Buzz Lightyear and other favourite characters from the film.

Liam also received a TV and DVD player for his bedroom so that he can enjoy his favourite film whenever he wants to.

Liam's Dad, Darren Broadhurst, says: "Liam didn't have much space to relax in and used to feel quite fed up. Having his own special room devoted to his favourite characters has made such a difference as he now has a second area to relax in and gets a bit more day-to-day variety. We are very grateful to Make-A-Wish."

There are currently 20,000 children and young people in the UK fighting a life-threatening illness and by 2012 Make-A-Wish is aiming to grant at least 1,000 wishes per year. The charity needs to raise £5.5 million in 2011 to achieve this.
