The scheduled ARS (Audlem Ramblers Society) walk tomorrow was to be near Wenlock Edge in Shropshire. But weather conditions have forced a change as Steve Elliott reports:
"Chris and I recced the Wenlock Edge walk yesterday. Of the 10 miles, 1.5 were on lanes. The remaining 8.5 miles were predominantly mud – mostly treacherous.
"I'm suggesting an alternative walk starting from Frodsham and taking in Helsby hill. This is a leap of faith on the basis that it's on the northern end of the Sandstone trail – and sandstone should hopefully be a little easier underfoot. I don't have time to recce it, so its pot luck!!
For those prepared to tag along, the details are: Beacon Hill Car Park, Frodsham Golf Course, Dunsdale Wood, Tong Dean, Helsby Hill Fort, Helsby Hill, The Longster Trail, Harmers Wood, The Sandstone Trail, Snidley Moor And Woodhouse Hill, Snidley Moor Wood, Beacon Hill Car Park.
Length/Distance: 10km (6.25 miles)
Total Ascent: 382m (1254ft)
Difficulty: Moderate – I expect it to be a 2+ boot walk
Could offer fine views of the Mersey estuary. There is apparently parking at the Beacon Hill Car Park, just off B5152/51563 NW of Frodsham Golf Course.
8.30am start on Saturday 16th February from Audlem Car Park for those that want to risk it!
