There was some truth

As readers will have noticed, AudlemOnline indulged in its annual bout of silliness yesterday. Hopefully, the huge numbers that clicked on – for the first time ever we had well over 2,000 readers in a day – were amused rather than frustrated by the lack of real news just for once in the year.

As is so often our custom, one story on April Fools Day does contain an element of truth. The danger signs on the newly installed electricity poles to the east of the village really are in English and those to the west are in English and Welsh.

Why this should be so we do not know but suspect that yesterday's conclusion that the international border could be about to shift to the centre of Audlem was mere speculation.

Our thanks to Roland Hall for bringing the multi-lingual signs to our notice. The editor is particularly grateful as the post in the photograph is in his front garden – and he hadn't even noticed the Welsh sign!
