A UK Parliament petition is calling for an independent public inquiry into the regulation of animal experimentation under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986.

The petition is seeking greater transparency and scrutiny around how animal research is licensed and regulated, and consideration of the use of modern, human-relevant alternatives where possible.

It currently has over 8,000 signatures and needs 10,000 to receive a formal Government response. If it reaches 100,000 signatures, it will be considered for debate in Parliament. The petition is open until 9 March 2027. (Petitions UK)
