Tales of the Paranormal

Since it is the season for ghost stories and other paranormal manifestations, we thought readers might be interested in this experience reported in the last couple of days by Harry Knapper, who is not one to be impressed by weird happenings.

Apparently Harry and his wife, Ann, had just completed putting up their decorations (including some rather fine flashing lights), when they discovered that they had lost their internet connection. The problem pointed to their router but all the connections seemed in order when checked by Harry.

Now most of us would breathe a sigh of relief at that point, since it would mean that all the pesky e-mails and other interruptions could not get through and a peaceful Christmas might be enjoyed.

But Harry was not easily put off and tried to find the cause of the problem. Eventually after much trial and error, he asked that the flashing lights mode be switched off and they were set to constant, and, hey presto, Harry and Ann were back on-line.

Now can any budding communications engineer out there explain why flashing lights should interfere with a wifi connection? Harry tells us a recent computing TV programme had said flashing lights were a potential problem for computer users.

We have also heard that the sound of reindeer galloping can also affect some older Lapp-tops so, if you have an internet connectivity problem late on Christmas Eve, at least you will have the consolation that Santa is not too far away!

AudlemOnline also takes this opportunity to warn readers that a brand new home-grown Ghost Story will be published exclusively on this website over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. So watch this space!
