AudlemOnline received this rather sad message form Sarah Johansen earlier this week.

I live by the canal in Nantwich. Residents have been finding multiple dead swans around the canal this week, it's very sad to see.

Please can residents and boaters keep a look out for the swans in the Audlem area and let the Canal and River Trust know if anything seems to be up with them. Also please watch out for signs of blue green algae.

Advice from the Canal & River Trust

For ill animals: main RSPCA on 0300 1234 999. Please note that Stapeley won't take animal carcasses.

For animal carcasses or blue green algae (BGA) sightings, please contact us using the online form here or call us on 0303 040 4040.

If the above don't work: call the environment agency on 0800 80 70 60

Blue Green Algae

Blue green algae (BGA) are naturally occurring organisms but in nutrient rich waters and encouraged by warm weather, BGA can grow excessively and cause water quality problems and potentially health problems in the summer months. We have a recognised internal process for monitoring and managing blue green algae in our reservoirs and waterbodies.
