Sustainability DVD showing

I invite you to join me in the Methodist Sunday School on Thursday next, 15th March, at 7.30pm, when I shall show a DVD of a talk (with illustrations) about "Sustainability" given last year by Pam Lunn to the Quakers' Yearly Meeting.

It lasts some 70 minutes, so we shall break for a cup of tea roughly in the middle, then recommence after about 15 minutes. I hope we shall be off home by 9-30 pm.

Sustainability, the use of the world's resources, is something which is in the mind of most thinking people, and touches not only on economics, the state of the developing nations, and our own prosperity, but perhaps even the continued existence of the human race. What are we handing on to our children and grand-children?

Pam Lunn is originally a mathematician, but has worked for many years as one of the tutors at the Quaker Study Centre, working on a range of concerns. Last year the Quakers decided to commit themselves as an organisation to the question of sustainability, and invited her to write a booklet on it as the latest of their annual "Swarthmore Lectures".

The DVD is of her giving the original lecture, of which the booklet is an expanded version. Although it comes out of the work of the Religious Society of Friends, the lecture only briefly refers to them, their way of doing things, and their organisation: it is not a sermon, though it makes one think about one's attitudes and principles.
