As part of National Science Week, we have held a special Science Week in school which got off to a flying start with a speical launch assembly on Monday led by Mrs Richardson, Mrs Burgess and Mrs Hayward.

They began our week with a 'bang' or rather a 'crack' as children prepared to enter our 'eggsciting' egg challenge. Families are invited to invent a way to protect an egg as it drops from a height of at least a metre.

The teachers tested their own skills in preparation for this using a parachute, a rocket and an exciting balloon capsule. Only two of the prototypes made it through to the next round! The egg and parachute came to a 'cracking end.'

During science week the children across school have had the opportunity to invent, test and observe. In our launch assembly we discovered the power of air to launch a rocket, magnets to move a vehicle without the need to touch and children were challenged to change the direction a spinner from clockwise to anti clockwise.

The busy Science theme has continued all week as Amethyst class have had fun with magnets and exploring their 'Living Hill' in their classroom. Sapphire class have been finding out all about the wonders of the human body whilst children in Pearl class have been creating circuits and have designed a switch to turn a light on and off.

In Key Stage 2 classes have learnt more about the Science in the world around us with Amber class looking at typhoons and Ruby class exploring the solar system and Diamond class investigating the structure of the earth.

Amber class treated their parents and relatives to a super class assembly on Tuesday where they not only showcased all of the hard work they have completed as part of their Enterprise project but also delighted their audience with confident and energising performances of a range of performance poetry – their 'Animal Zoo' will live long in the memory!

Ruby class children have welcomed their parents into class to share their Guided Reading sessions this week prior to our workshop for all parents and carers next Thursday (26th) about supporting your child's reading at home.

The session will run from 5pm – 6pm and provide you with practical tips for children of all ages in relation to reading. I hope many of you will be able to join us.

Diamond class took part in a range of exciting outdoor pursuits at Reaseheath on Wednesday including high ropes, canoeing and archery. Great fun was had by all and the sun even shined on them all! Many thanks to the staff at Reaseheath who provided this opportunity free of charge for our pupils.

Book Fair

Thank you to Mrs Heathcock and her Librarians for organising and running our Book Fair in school. A reminder that the Fair opened yesterday and will run each day after school until Wednesday 26th March.

Finally

Many thanks to those parents who attended our Parent Forum on Monday evening We covered a range of areas and the discussions we had were very useful in identifying ways in which we can continue to work together to make our school even better. The minutes of the meeting will be sent out to all families soon – please look out for them.

I am always keen to hear feedback about your views on school's strengths and any areas your feel we could improve further. Please contact me directly if you have any feedback on this. Thank you.
