A reminder that the North West 's premier peformance of St John Passion by the renowned and popular composer Bob Chilcott will take place in St Mary's Church, Nantwich this evening, Sunday 6th April (Passion Sunday), at 7.30pm.

As in the great Passion settings by J.S.Bach, the story is narrated by a tenor Evangelist – on this occasion Stephen Newlove – accompanied only by a viola and cello. Other solo parts will be taken by members of the Nantwich Singers.

The role of the choir is to play the part of the crowd or a group of soldiers who comment from time to time in short outbursts. More substantially they sing four meditations which punctuate various parts in the drama.

We would like to invite you to participate in our performance. There are five well-known Passiontide hymn texts set within the work for audience/congregation and choir to sing together.

Conductor Tony Metcalfe invites you to join the Nantwich Singers at their rehearsal this evening, Tuesday 25th March (7.30 – 8.10 pm in St. Mary's) to experience and learn these hymns.

The organist will be Simon Russell. Also included in the concert will be motets chosen from the glorious stock of music written over the centuries by composers who are inspired by the intense drama and emotion of the Passion story.

This will range from the 16th century (Gesualdo) and the 18th century (Lotti) through the 19th century (Goss and Stainer) into the 20th century (Howells, Walton and Kenneth Leighton) and on to the present day (David Ogden and Chilcott himself).

Tickets ( £10 )available from Think about IT or the Church shop.
