We are pleased to announce that yesterday the children of St James's school smashed the current Guinness World Record for most authors signing the same book simultaneously.

The children signed 21 copies of their gripping children's story "Who Ate My Roof?" along with co-author Sonia Kay – putting 115 autographs on each book. The previous world record was set in Bucharest in 2011, with 29 authors.

A limited number of special edition copies will be on sale later today at the school's Christmas Fete with all proceeds going to the St James's Church "Raise the Roof" appeal. So hurry down at 5pm tonight to snap up your copy. Once they're gone they're gone.

The children have been spurred on in their efforts by a special email message from renown children's author Julia Donaldson who emailed the children to say: ''Good luck and I hope you beat the record. I know what it's like to do a long signing so make sure you have a big celebration afterwards!"

HRH Prince George of Cambridge will receive one of'the limited edition signed copies as a gift from the children, who first launched their book "Who Ate My Roof?" on the day the prince was born. '

The attempt was officially presided over by Councillor Rachel Bailey and PCSO Nick Jarvis, and the children now await for final adjudication from Guinness World Records.
