Audlem St James' school are using technology to help their pupils get fitter and healthier.

The school has been working with the online PE and fitness platform Amaven to measure and monitor the children's fitness, aswell as receiving help from the coaches at Sportscape to deliver Amaven's PE challenge days.

The coaches visited the school to test the children on their fitness and key sports skills such as object control, upper and lower body strength, speed and flexibility. These challenge days help teachers to understand the individual fitness levels of each pupil and get a clear picture of the school's fitness overall.
Part of the Amaven package provides schools with PE lesson plans so teachers can deliver the national curriculum with confidence and expertise. Plus, each child is given a personalised home learning plan so they can practise key activities in their own time.

Studies show that children's levels of activity are declining as early as age 7, however by helping children to master key fitness and sports skills from an early age they have more opportunity to lead an active lifestyle. Year 1 to Year 6 have been taking part in the Amaven programme and almost all Audlem St James' classes have improved their overall fitness scores since their last PE test.

Head teacher, Rebecca Jewitt commented on how Amaven has impacted the school: "We take health and well-being seriously at our school and using Amaven has become part of our regular PE programme. The children enjoy doing the PE lessons and the home activity plans are a great way to fit more activity in every day. I am happy to recommend the system to schools and colleagues across Cheshire East and am looking forward to seeing even more improvements in pupil well-being this year."
