A local resident writes to ask how difficult it was to gain entry to the two houses recently broken into. The writer says an Age Concern representative recently visited a relative's home – something they will do for any house owned by over 60's. Two security bolts and 3 metal bars were fitted to the back door which had a panel he said would be easy to kick in.

Extra catches were fitted to all the small opening lights which, despite being small, could still be a point of entry. Two catches were fitted to larger windows and security bolts were also fitted on the door from the garage into the house.

Age Concern only charged for materials, our correspondent adds, so they may be worth calling if you qualify on age grounds.
