A (slightly tainted) big thank you

You may have seen the gazebo alongside Audlem Mill for the last couple of months. During the day, it covers a wide range of secondhand books for sale. All the proceeds go direct to Audlem Aid for Cancer Research, and the gazebo acts as a sort of overspill, as the Phoenix Shop is rather short of space.

Peter and Chris Silvester are proud of the fact that they have raised just about £3000 for cancer research from books since they reopened Audlem Mill in 2007, but this pride is just a tad tainted – the other day, somebody stole several of the "ratchet tie-down" straps used to steady the gazebo in windy conditions. These tie-downs only cost about £1 each, so this was a rather mean act.

It would be good if the guilty party was to read this, and return the tie-downs. Although they have been replaced, that's not an invitation to pinch them again!

In the time that the gazebo has been used, the monthly contribution to cancer research has increased considerably, so this year it should be a lot more than in previous years.

So, many thanks to everyone who has bought books or contributed books, but a rather more sarcastic thank you to the thief.
