Many will know yesterday as the Winter Solstice, the shortest day.

Those of us who hate the dark, short days and long for Spring may be celebrating. Indeed I believe our ancestors back in time celebrated the Solstice. They realised that this date was special, the sun would now begin its journey back towards us.

However each year I give a cheer on 16th December as I discovered that this is the date the nights actually start to get lighter. It's only a minute or so to start with but a little step in the right direction.

Why then I hear you ask is 21st the shortest day? That's because the mornings are still getting darker. For 5 days the mornings are getting darker quicker than the afternoons get lighter.

I have attached a link. If, like me, you are desperate to see signs of being on the right side of the dark nights have a look. It may cheer you up!!
