Next Saturday (Feb 23rd) the short ARS walk will be around Alderley Edge. The walk will be led by Jean Stainthorpe and Jeanette Shenton.

It is slightly outside the normal short ARS limits in that travelling time will be about one hour. The walk itself is 4.5 miles and involves just over 500 feet of ascent. Please bring National Trust cards if you have them, to get the benfit of free parking.

We meet at the car park for 9.30am departure.

Walk description

Starting from the National Trust car park next to the Wizard Inn on B5087 east of Alderley Edge, we cross fields and skirt Daniel Hill before gaining the Edge. We follow the footpaths stopping for lunch at Stormy Point with great views across the Cheshire Plain to the Pennines. Continuing along the edge to visit Beacon Pont the highest point on the Edge with more excellent views, we then walk through woods and fields to Artists Lane and back to the car park.

Although the walk is only 4.5 miles long it is a two-booter as it involves some steepish, though not long climbs, was very muddy on our last recce, and has seven stiles and some stepping stones. BUT you will be rewarded by a varied walk with fabulous views, especially if we're lucky enough to have a fine day.

There is a little road walking but most of the walk is across fields, on bridle paths and on the Edge itself. Dogs need to be on leads at times when passing by private property and of course on roads. We didn't see any livestock in the fields on our recent recce.
