A reminder that November's Short-ARS was postponed to allow ARS members to star in a world-acclaimed musical production.

Peter Kay kindly agreed to lead his Madeley walk on Saturday (December 6th).

We meet in the Car Park to leave at 9.45am. This is to arrive at Madeley Centre after it opens for the Convenience (ho-ho) of members.

The walk, described by Peter Kay

The walk explores the hidden bumpy countryside between Madeley and Keele. It crosses the M6 and two of Staffordshire's abandoned railways.

The theme of this Autumn's walking is mud, and there is, early on in the walk, a morale sapping half an hour of mud and motorway noise. However after this the noise abates and there is surprisingly little mud thereafter.

The walk is 5.5 miles long with a modest 400ft of climbing. There are 8 stiles. If the day is such that you need your spirits lifted there is a pub quite near the end of the walk.

We start at the Madeley Centre in the village of Madeley where there is normally ample parking. We can use their toilets before the walk.

At the end of the walk the Centre does offer a limited range of drinks, including wine, and hot lunches. It's mainly used by the more adventurous residents of the attached Old People's Home and the service can be a little slow.

This walk is classed as a three carpet-slipper rating. i.e. near the top end of the Short-ARS classification.
