March 30th

Meet in Audlem Car Park for 9.30am departure.

John Tilling will be leading the short ARS this Saturday – here is his description of the walk

Nantwich Old and New

We park in the car park by Shrewbridge Lake in Nantwich (no facilities, but free) and walk through the park and a short stretch of the Whitchurch Road (which has a footpath) to join the Crewe & Nantwich Circular Walk in a clockwise direction. We cross a couple of fields and then onto a lane over the railway and canal alongside one of Nantwich's brand new developments. Then a minor road for half-a-mile before turning right towards Dorfold Hall. This lane brings us into Acton , thought by some historians to be the site of the oldest (i.e. Roman) settlement of Nantwich.
Then past Acton Chuirch and on to a lane to the canal where there is an interesting historical description of the battle of Nantwich.
Here we turn right towards Nantwich, leaving the canal towpath as it passes the end of Welsh Row, and we follow this through the remnants of late Medieval and Georgian Nantwich, back to the carpark, or a diversion into Nantwich for those who wish to.

This walk is about 4 miles, and very flat – there are no stiles, very few animals around apart from a few docile sheep and good road surface underfoot for almost all the way – one short slightly boggy stretch but nothing serious.

NB All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry food and water to last for the entire walk and be suitably fit for the various lengths of walk.

Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately equipped.

Non-members of ARS are welcome to come on a walk but are expected to join ARS and pay the membership fee after a trial walk or two.
