Scam warning – IMPORTANT

There is a sad entry on Chatbox which it is worth bringing to everyone's attention.

WARNING

My elderly mum who lives in Sandbach has been scammed recently by a very plausible English woman who rang her saying she was from Cheshire East Council enquiring about her council rates banding and that they were reviewing them.

The lady said that my mum would get a rebate of £3,000 as she had lived there for more than 25 years. She said my mum she would have to pay £150 up front for them to do all the paperwork and asked her to give her card details which unfortunately she did.

My mum sadly realised she had been scammed and rang Cheshire East Council who said they would never call anyone like this or ask for money over the phone. The police have been informed and said to spread the word as quickly as you can on social media to prevent it happening to anyone else.

A further report said that there had been about five similar incidents that day that the police know about. The bank have also been informed.
