Salford Jubilee Street Party

Salford residents held their Diamond Jubilee Street Party and it was a huge success with everyone agreeing it was well worth the effort and we should do this every year!

Precautions were taken in case of inclement weather with gazebos up the middle of the lane to protect both party goers and food (in the event we only had a light shower towards the end).  The party had been several weeks in the planning and it paid off bringing the small community of Salford and friends together to celebrate a rare historic event. 

Each household made a contribution towards expenses such as public liability insurance, decorations and table dressings, a gift of a commemorative coin for the children and some sundry food items.  We were also fortunate in being awarded a £100 grant from Cheshire East Council towards party expenses.  Plans are afoot to use any remaining funds to do something in Salford to commemorate this rare historic event.

The menu included Pimm’s and nibbles on arrival, coronation chicken, salmon, ham, walnut pate en croute, and a selection of quiches, all accompanied by various salads and a jaw dropping array of delicious puddings, including two Union Jack cakes.  Music was strictly restricted to songs of the1950s and we rounded off with a good old fashion sing song led by Olive Stretch.

Many thanks to all who helped make the day a huge success these include:  Cubs for the loan of some tables, the Baptist Chapel for putting our minds at rest by giving the loan of their hall in case of severe weather, plus all the residents of Salford and Woore Road for their hard work, good community spirit and delicious food.
