Audlem Saints U9s won a thrilling match Vs Cougars FC on Sunday. The game lived up to its billing as a top of the table clash and was a fabulous game to watch. Both sides created chances and moved the ball around well. With many of the boys knowing each other from other activities (cricket, tennis etc), it was great to see a fiercely competitive game played in good spirits with smiling faces! Audlem went ahead with a neatly taken goal after three quick passes had turned defence into attack. Cougars immediately bounced back to level the scores with a scrambled effort and that's how the first period ended. The second period saw Audlem take the lead again, forcing home a loose ball after a little pressure. Again, though, Cougars struck back, forcing home a corner kick to end the second period level at 2-2. The game could have gone either way in the final period but Audlem got the crucial breakthrough. A wonderful series of 5 or 6 passes eventually presented the Audlem left midfielder with a simple tap in to take the lead. With Cougars desperately trying to level for a third time, Audlem broke quickly and secured the points with a fourth goal. The 4-2 Audlem win was an exciting game to watch and, I imagine, to play in. Well done to both teams.

With 9 games played, Audlem have won 7 and lost 2. In the process they have scored 34 goals and conceded just 8.
