Audlem Saints this week pitted their 13 match unbeaten record against Wistaston Cubs, themselves unbeaten in 14. As one might expect the game was very tight indeed. The standard of football played was exceptional though, especially considering that this was a match contested by 8 year olds. Both sides passed with accuracy and fluency and should be proud of the way in which they played.

Audlem made the first breakthrough with a thunderous shot into the roof of the Wistaston net after a goalmouth scramble. Almost immediately though, Wistaston scored a great team goal. Neat passing opened up the Audlem defence and allowed the Wistaston forward to tap home from close range. With only minutes left, and under pressure, Audlem broke away and the centre half smashed home what looked like the winning goal. However, in the last 10 seconds Wistaston created another opening which was calmly tucked away.

For the second time this season then, the teams contested a superb 2-2 draw. Both teams remain unbeaten with 4 games left to play. Crucially though, Audlem have drawn 3 games whereas Wistaston have drawn only the two against Audlem.

No game now until January 7th. Well done to all the lads and a Happy Christmas to all of the village from the Audlem Saints U8 Soccer Team who value the support given!
