Nobody wants to hear the cry “Run for your life”, but how about running for
someone else’s life?
This week (Thurs Nov 27th), a former serviceman with the specialist airborne unit will recount, for members of Audlem Probus Club for retired business and professional men and women, tales of his switch from military service to global challenges of a very different kind.
As a weapons and chemical warfare instructor, Ron Hutchinson served in Northern Ireland, Ethiopia & Germany. After retiring from military service,
Manchester-born Ron became a chauffeur to the aristocracy and members of the Royal family. It’s a reasonably safe bet to assume he missed the challenges of military life.
With another change of career direction, Ron, whose childhood was mainly spent in Cheshire, began work as a charity fundraiser with Claire House Children’s Hospice, in Liverpool, in 2000.
His role as organizer and leader of fundraising expeditions to Everest, the Canadian Rockies, the Grand Canyon and Borneo, among others, earned him the title “Fundraiser of the Year” in 2007.
Claire House helps “seriously and terminally ill children make the most of the time they have, however long or short that may be.”
Future global fundraising challenges include a Northern Lights trek exploring Iceland, cycling in Sri Lanka
and running a 5K, 10K or half-marathon at Aintree Racecourse . . . . for
someone else’s life!
Guests & visitors welcome from 10am, Thurs Nov 27th, Audlem Public Hall
