An update on our earlier story about the letter sent on Wednesday to the Royal Mail's chief executive in London about the widespread mail failures – the response that would, in the Victorian era, have arrived with this morning's post, has not turned up.

More tomorrow, when hopefully, there will be a response from the head of the Royal Mail who is, we assume, responsible for sorting out the current mess. The sorting office decisions were made, it has to be said, by her predecessor, Adam Crozier, now head of ITV, and the man who also ran English football so successfully before taking his undoubted skills to the Royal Mail.

Incidentally, Audlem Online's Potteries correspondent tells us that the Stoke area is suffering similar problems since their sorting office work was transferred to Wolverhampton. Radio Stoke is reporting incidents such as a missed hospital scan as a result of local letters taking over a week.
