Shane Thomson writes: "While I was jogging this morning about six thirty on Longhill Lane, I was approaching the White Lion and spotted a large bird of prey. This bird had a forked tail and long slender wings. It was flying over the golf club and then it decended to the ground for a few seconds and flew up again only to be mobbed by a seagull which was a lot smaller. I'm 100 percent certain that it was a red kite."
Janet Maughan writes with further observations: "Regards the recent sighting of a red kite, I have seen one over farmland in Hankelow and more spectacularly, in a field in Audlem, following a forage harvester wholecropping wheat. I've also seen a red kite hovering – then going into a full dive to the ground to catch what looked like a mouse. If there was ever a time you wished you had a camera!"
