Our Key Stage 2 children have been filling school with Christmas cheer as they rehearse for the Big Switch On next week.

Their songs include Amazing Grace as part of the Mend Our Mum Appeal and we have been impressed with how well the children have been learning the words and the energy they have been putting into their rehearsals!

EYFS and Key Stage One children have also been learning this special song as well as countless others for their Christmas performances. The sound of their singing has been wonderful to hear and the sneak previews I have had so far make me think we are in for a treat!

On Tuesday, our Year 6 children and many staff from across school took part in CPR and defibrillator training led by the Hand on Heart charity.

As you know, we successfully bid for a defibrillator for school and this is set up in our entrance area for use in school and by our local community during school hours. We have also registered the defibrillator with the Northwest Ambulance Service to ensure it can be used in the event of any local emergencies.

This work is part of our Basic Lifesaving Skills Awareness work in school and we have many other important events such as this planned in throughout the coming year.

The Year 6 children were a real credit to school in their sessions, taking great care to follow the instructions carefully and asking important questions to ensure they understood these skills in the event of an emergency. The Instructor was very impressed with their mature attitude and approach to this work – well done children!

FASA News

Thank you for all of the donations sent in for the FASA stall at the Big Switch On as part of our Non Uniform Day today.

You will have received a flier about FASA's walk from school into the village earlier this week – I hope many of you will be able to join FASA for this procession on Thursday. Please remember, all children MUST be accompanied by an adult for this walk.

A reminder that all Key Stage 2 children who are singing on the Church steps after the Switch On, must meet staff at the steps at 6pm and must be picked up and dropped off by an adult.

Your child will be bringing home raffle tickets for our Christmas Fair today. Please return stubs and any unsold tickets by Friday 5th December at the latest so they can be included in the draw at our Fair.

A huge thank you to all of you who bought Christmas cards and gifts from the children's design work which FASA recently organised in school. This project raised £500 for school funds, which is a wonderful amount. Thanks also to FASA for organising this so well.

ABC Childcare

Did you know? You don't have to pay a holiday retainer at ABC's out of school club, if you only require term time hours. You can opt for the slightly higher 'ad hoc' price. Many parents have selected this option and return to ABC time and time again. For more information, please feel free to telephone Lynsey on 01270 669050.

Christingle Service

The annual Christingle Service will be held at St James' Church on Sunday 30th November at 4.00pm. This service is designed for families and as part of the service children make their own Christingle to take home.

Church will provide all that is needed to make the Christingle. I hope many of our families are able to attend this special service.

Thank you

Many thanks to the Gibbons family for kindly donating a collection of wonderful books for use in our library and classrooms. The books will be avidly read by children throughout the school.

Christmas Cracker

I have been asked to highlight a special 'Christmas Cracker' fundraising event taking place at Burleydam Church Community Centre on Saturday 6th December.

The event is to raise money for The New Born Appeal and runs from 10am – 4pm. Stalls include tombola, cakes, crafts, face painting and many more. Please try to support this event if you can.

Finally

Many thanks to those parents who joined us for Parent Forum on Wednesday morning. A range of subjects were covered with some productive and useful ideas coming from the discussions we had.

One issue raised was concerns about parking at the beginning and end of the school day. As you will know, I have highlighted this as a safety issue on a number of occasions in my weekly newsletters but requests for safe and considerate parking are not being followed by all parents and carers.

I have recently highlighted this issue again with our PCSO Nick Jarvis and he has agreed to carry out 'spot checks' at the beginning and end of the school days regarding this to ensure our environment remains safe for everyone at these busy times of day.

The minutes of the meeting will be distributed to all families soon, please look out for these in your child/ren's school bags.
