Audlem's cricketers lost an opportunity to haul themselves out of the relegation dogfight when the 1st XI lost to fellow strugglers Saughall in a game affected by the weather.

The day started well with Audlem restricting their hosts to 119 all out on a very lively wicket. The star bowler was "quickie" Hugh Ratcliffe, who bowled throughout Saughall's innings and finished with 6 for 39 off 23 overs, having beaten the bat on countless occasions.

Soon after the start of Audlem's innings rain forced the players off the pitch for 30 minutes. The rain changed the nature of the wicket and the bounce of the ball became less predictable – some flying at head height and others barely getting off the ground. A steady stream of batsmen came to and left the wicket, having been either bowled or given out lbw to the "one that kept low". Throughout this, however, Paddy Leese managed to overcome the conditions and was eventually last man out having scored 44 of the 89 runs that were amassed. Audlem gained 6 points to Saughall's 25.

For the second week running, the 2nd XI's opponents, this time Mossley, were unable to field a team. As a consequence Audlem gained 25 points whilst Mossley failed to score any.

This coming Saturday both teams play Wilmslow Wayfarers, the 2nd XI playing at home whilst the 1st XI travel.
