The next Audlem District History Society meeting is this coming Thursday, 17th September, at the Audlem Scout Hall starting at 7.30pm.
The First World War was arguably the railway war. Without the railways, war on this scale would not have been possible.
Equally, without its vast rail network, the United Kingdom could not have survived the onslaught of the early years, nor would it have had the logistical resources to mount the counter-offensive which ultimately led to victory.
The talk will cover the role of Britain's railways in the First World War and the social and economic upheaval created.
