A copy of the conveyance deed passing the ownership of the Public Hall from the Limited Company to a newly formed Trust has been passed to the archive group.

This document, dated 30th March 1939, is in beautiful hand-written copperplate writing, full of "hereinbefore"s and "hereinafter"s so beloved of legal document writers when they were paid by the word.

The transfer occurred when the Audlem Public Hall Ltd was liquidated (i.e. went broke) and sold the Hall to the Trust for £600.

It is of particular interest at the moment perhaps with the APHAx (Audlem Public Hall Annexe) committee trying to change the body which runs the Public Hall from a Charity to a Charity Incorporated Organisation (CIO).

The full document can be seen on the archive site – go to the archives by clicking here and then select "buildings" and "Public Hall" – the document is the first on the list in that category, among many other fascinating items.
