The October meeting of environmental group ADAPT took place on Wednesday.

The group have been running a series of local produce sales under the Buttermarket on Saturday mornings with garden fresh produce and plants for sale.

ADAPT is very keen to revive the annual Produce Show which was such a feature of village life in the past. Initial plans will be discussed at the November meeting. We hope to work with other village groups and aim to have plans well in hand by Spring so that villagers can get busy planting. One of the original trophies has been discovered and we are sure that there will be a great deal of friendly competition.

ADAPT member Susan James gave a short talk on Permaculture at the meeting. Permaculture supports the creation of sustainable, productive, non-polluting and healthy settlements.

It was developed in Australia over 30 years ago and has since spread all over the world. Permaculture principles can be applied in many settings from back gardens to farms and in all types of climates.

The next meeting of ADAPT will take place on 2nd November at 7.30pm at the Baptist Church. Everyone is very welcome. If you would like a copy of Susan’s presentation or would like to go on ADAPT's mailing list, contact her at runaways@hotmail.co.uk
