A concerned motorist writes: "Celia and George are right to highlight the potential dangers of the slippery surface on the A525. However the road surface on the A529 at the corner at Corbrook Court is another prime example of a potentially dangerous road surface that will eventually lead to yet another accident and potentially serious injury or even another death.

"This piece of road is notorious for accidents and has been the scene of at least one fatality. The road surface on the corner is completely worn away leaving polished tar, which is slippery in the wet and potentially lethal when iced up. I'm aware that this situation has been reported by the Parish Council to the Highways Authority and no action has been forthcoming.

"I assume that should anyone skid on this piece of road and have an accident then the Cheshire Highways Authority's Chief Executive will be held accountable and responsible due to negligence as the Authority have not acted to rectify a notified potentially dangerous situation.

"I would also imagine that any insurance lawyer worth half his salt would be quick to pick up on this situation and any compensation claim would again fall to the Community Charge payers and not the negligent County officials."

Janet Maughan adds at 10.30am: "Regards the A529 on the Corbrook bend – this year is the second year that signs have been put up indicating that the road was to receive new chippings and then nothing happened.

"Last year the signs stayed up for a few weeks, eventually falling over and then being removed. This year, they went up again but were removed more quickly – which begs the question – was it due to be surfaced and our road surface intercepted or stolen before it ever went down?"

Dave adds (at 01.30pm): "With regards to the A529 at Corbrook, I feel that it is intolerable that this area of road surface has not been repaired. I brought the condition of this piece of road to the attention of a member of the Parish Council some time ago and the matter was raised at a subsequent Parish Council meeting.

"I agree with the concerned motorist that the Highways Authority and the Executive should be held totally accountable and responsible for any subsequent accidents on this stretch of road. Does it have to take a serious accident, injury or death before the Authority acts, or is it a case of 'buck passing' until the new Cheshire East Authority commences? "Maybe the visit of Chief Executive Erika Wenzel could answer some of the questions, or then, maybe not!"

John Kemble adds at 10.30pm: "Buerton Parish Council have written to the Cheshire Highways Authority twice concerning vehicles skidding off the A525. Their answer is very simple. In the absence of the police reporting incidents where serious injury or death has occurred, no action is necessary. They ducked the direct question of "do we need a death to prove the point?"

"They will therefore take no action. When pressed on other matters, nothing will now be done until the Cheshire East Authority is up and running."
