Poaching Animal Cruelty

I love living in the countryside and feel privileged to be able to do so. I make sure I get out and enjoy the beauty of the scenery and wildlife as often as I can.

Last week however, I encountered an animal (deceased) in the most tortured state I have witnessed. The context around what had caught my attention felt suspicious so I took advice and called our local PC and rural crime officer. Grateful to them, the officers duly went to investigate and confirmed it was a deer which it turns out had been gutted (likely by poachers) before being unceremoniously dumped near the side of the road. The flagrant disregard for its life visible for any passerby to see.

I saw and I'd like to say to anyone who believes they are entitled to exploit, harm or kill animals for their own gain, that like many others who advocate animal welfare and a world free of animal cruelty, there are vigilant people, always very willing to report any suspicious act to the appropriate agencies who are taking very seriously acts of animal cruelty.

POACHING IS A CRIME. Cruelty to any animal is a crime. For those wishing a right to reply by offering sugar coated discourses regarding the 'natural order' of things, THERE IS NO JUSTIFICATION.

In a world where humans are systematically destroying the lives and habitat of species who do not have their own voices to defend themselves, it is incumbent upon us, the species supposedly higher up the phylogenetic scale to act as custodians of animals, conserve them, protect them.

Cruelty to animals exists not simply because people exploit animals, but because innocent others perceive the cruelty yet do nothing to intervene.

'Humanity's true moral test...consists of its attitude towards those who are at its mercy-animals'. (Milan Kundera)
