On Thursday evening a peal was successfully rung at St James Church to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Geoff Edwards's and John Scott's first peal on 3rd September 1965.

The conductor, Frank Morton, also rang in the same band and between them they have rung over 5400 peals.

Each peal takes on average three hours, depending on the number of bells and their weight, so this equates to an incredible 16200 hours continuous ringing – I'll leave it up to the online geeks department to work out how many weeks this is and I haven't counted the thousands of quarter peals they have completed.

Audlem is very fortunate to have two such talented, active ringers who regularly ring on Sunday mornings and on many important occasions and celebrations.

The peal was completed in 2 hrs 42 mins and the ringers were:

  • 1 Frank Morton. Conductor
  • 2 Jackie Thompson
  • 3 Christine Johnson
  • 4 John Scott
  • 5 Chris Hughes
  • 6 Geoff Edwards

Congratulations Geoff and John!
