At Monday night's Parish Council meeting, Ward Councillor Rachel Bailey explained that the delay in the repair to the New Bridge on Woore Road has been caused by the need to re-route BT cabling to allow a crane to lift the displaced blockwork.
Councillors expressed their concern at the dangers posed to road users and pedestrians by selfish drivers who are failing to respect the two-way temporary lights at the Woore Road/Salford/School Lane junction. The lights are in place to protect the safety of road users and pedestrians whilst work is carried out to repair the bridge after a recent incident.
There have been several sightings of drivers on the A525 ignoring the red light and breaching the signal without due concern for other drivers and pedestrians. This is especially the case for those who are attempting to come out of School Lane or Salford and who are partially hidden from traffic approaching the lights from both the village and Woore directions.
Councillor Dave Siddorns also asked what was happening about the manhole cover at the School Lane junction which has been coned off for months. Councillor Bailey told the meeting that this was being chased up by Cheshire East with United Utilities.' The Parish Council has since received confirmation from Councillor Bailey that the manhole cover repair is being carried by United Utilities this week.
