Monday's Audlem Parish Council heard from local residents during the Public Forum about parking problems in School Lane, which runs from Stafford Street from the (old) Post Office down to the Country Home at the Old Grammar School and beyond.

Residents said that the road was being used as a parking space by people living elsewhere who do not have off-road parking yet own many vehicles. One car had been parked in School Lane without ever moving for twelve weeks.

Cars were parked so closely to the walls of old houses that buildings had been damaged and one wall would have to be re-rendered. Fire and other emergency vehicles might have difficulty getting past and to Cheshire Country Home at the bottom of the road – see photo.

One resident reported that they often had difficulty turning in and out of their drives and that a caravan holiday was delayed as there was insufficient room to drive the caravan out on to the road because of the tightly packed parked cars.

Residents were now looking for support from Audlem Parish Council to take up the issue with Cheshire East Highways and, as School Lane is a conservation area, to find alternative parking for residents who live elsewhere such as Cheshire Street nearer their homes.
