Despite temperatures outside approaching -15°C, the Village Carol Service held last night in St James' saw a packed and very atmospheric church. The service was by the three village churches and included congregational carols along with choir items and the traditional Christmas readings.

The singing moves outside on Wednesday with the communal singing of traditional carols around the Christmas tree in the Square at 7.30pm. There is always an enjoyable atmosphere and everyone has said how spectacular the tree is this year. This event, as well as the Christmas trees throughout the village centre, is organised by ADAS.

Given the weather, the hot soup provided by Jo and Allan at the Lord Combermere could well be very popular while there's a warming glass of mulled wine and mince pies afterwards courtesy of Nigel and Bridie at the Bridge Inn.

Many of Audlem's shops will also be open for last minute presents until mid-evening, ideal if you've been weather bound and unable to get all your Christmas gifts.
