Oxjam Audlem 2011

Tuesday 11th October is the start of Audlem's participation in Oxjam 2011. Now in its 5th year, Oxjam is Oxfam's month-long music festival.

It runs all through October with hundreds of events around the UK, all organised by volunteers who know and love their local music scene, all raising money to save lives around the world. We at Oxjam Audlem are running three events during this week.

Tuesday Quiz

The first being the ever popular Tuesday night Quiz at the Lord Combermere with an Oxfam based quiz – don’t worry, it’s not all music based! As always the Quiz starts at 9.00pm with free food and prizes, your host being Ralph Warburton.

Oxjam Jam

On Thursday 13th October 2011 we are trialling a special Oxjam Audlem Jam at The Lord Combermere, the concept being that if you can play any instrument at any level from beginner to expert you can join in on a music jam unplugged, not on stage just scattered around the bar.

Trust me, this is a great way as a beginner to learn and enjoy playing, with lots of people there who will show you the chords and you just join in. Great fun and, as a rule, some great music is discovered.  Or, of course, buy a beer and watch and enjoy.

Oxjam Music Festival

And then finally the week culminates in the Oxjam Audlem Music Festival on Sunday 16th October 2011. Eight months in the planning, this one day event is set to be one of the best free festivals in the country for Oxjam.

There will be a heated enclosed marquee, two stages and thirteen bands starting at 11.30am outside The Lord Combermere. The outside stage will close at 8.00pm and then the music moves inside. There will also be face painting and children’s glitter tattoos – of course not limited to the children.

The unique way this event has been funded once again means it’s a free entry event – a list of sponsors that have made this happen is below. All acts are giving their time for free, which I can’t thank them enough for.

However, there will be collection buckets and if you feel the need, then please place some cash in the buckets. I promise you will not be pressured to give give give – all we ask is that you enjoy enjoy enjoy!
