On Sunday 16th October 2011, Audlem staged the inaugural Oxjam Audlem. This event was one of six hundred taking place across the country raising valuable money for Oxfam.

Taking place on the car park at the Lord Combermere, the event boasted thirteen bands on two stages over a twelve-hour period, and none of the bands failed to disappoint, all of them giving up their time for nothing.

Setting mood

The day started with Audlem's own The Folkwits, Dave and Kel set the mood for the day with a great set of originals and covers followed by Jack Marshall on the acoustic stage which uniquely was made up of three vintage camper vans.

And the bands kept coming – Alex Hulme from Liverpool followed by Hello Big World. It was then The Wash, playing their fantastic live set with an air of Hendrix in the feedback. The track they donated to the live CD being chosen as the first track due to its lively uplifting nature.

It was then Nick Lundie and yet another Audlem band in The Woods, all of which kept the audience going all afternoon. Then a debut for Audlem's Rootless Vagabonds with some very chilled sounds.

From Manchester

Next, Audlem favourites Modern Alarms from Manchester took to the stage and once again created a magical 45 minutes, highlight of the set being a guest dancer up on stage, four year old Cooper Bonnell. The crowd went mad for this Manchester four piece who love playing at the Lord Combermere as much as we love having them.

A more chilled set next from Crewe's Dayve Dean, and then another highlight in Blue Café. Andy Halliwell and Val Warner have been playing together for the past twenty years and after a break of several years are back with a full band and the crowd were once again hungry to hear this incredible set.

Inside

The music then went inside with Roydan Styles from Bury with his powerful driving lyrics and guitar playing setting the scene for the extremely talented and entertaining Darren Poyzer along with Fluff on fiddle, Dee Mishka on percussion and Brad Wood on bass.

Darren played a great set of his very own superbly written songs along with a perfectly chosen set of covers, to ensure the night finished with a bang.

Fund-raising

All in all great day was had with extras of face painting and glitter tattoos by Lorna (in the corner) Desilva who worked non stop for hours. Add to that a compilation CD that ten of the acts donated too, for sale at only £3 for eleven tracks the grand total raised was £1290.

CDs are still available at The Lord Comberemere, Hocs Fat Pigeon, Audlem dry cleaners or from Reuben Palin.
