Less people than you might think are aware that today, 4th March is National Grammar Day.

Its mainly popular in the United State's where it was established in 2008 by Martha Brockenbrough who is the founder of the Society for the Promotion of Good Grammar (SPOGG).

Their are alot of grammar rules in the English language. From rules on misplaced modifiers and subject/verb agreement to rules on double negatives. I cannot hardly believe some of the howlers I've saw. One of the best ways to not forget you're correct grammar is to review examples of bad grammar, such as

  • Verb Tense Errors – "I go to the store and I bought orange juice." 'Go' is a present tense verb, 'bought' is a past tense verb. Bought should be buy. Also, I bought wine so the sentence should be "I went to the shop and I bought wine."
  • Noun/Pronoun Errors – "Annie and Reginald are married, and has been for 20 years." 'Annie and Reginald ' are plural, and 'has' is singular. The sentence should read "Annie and Reginald divorced five years ago."
  • Subject/Verb Agreement Errors – "Dave like fish." 'Dave' is singular, 'like' is plural, Dave doesn't like fish. The sentence should read "Dave doesn't like fish."

Your welcome.
