On March 26th 1976 HM Queen Elizabeth II became the first head of state to send an email.

She was visting the Royal Signals and Radar Establishment, a telecommunications research centre in Malvern, on the occasion of their changing their name from the Royal Radar Establishment and to celebrate commencement of a major collaboration between The UK's Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the US Department of Defense (DoD) for the development of a future standard programming language.

The computer and the link to the ARPA network were in 'L' Building whilst the Queen was in 'B' building with a temporary link between the two established using a device called an acoustic modem. As a precaution for this link failing, a computer scientist was on hand by the link computer to intervene if necessary to ensure the message was transferred. Fortunately, there were no problems and the Queen became the first monarch to send an email.

Today's questions is:

In what year was the first EVER email sent?

The first email ever sent was in late 1971, by Ray Tomlinson – credited as the inventor of email.
