Regular Chatbox readers may have noticed a post on Wednesday that said Andy Hassall had posted this film on Facebook. It shows Audlem and Cox Bank about four minutes into the film which is almost eight minutes in length.
We thought many might enjoy it, particularly as the BBC is showing films currently on the railways in the age of steam.
Much was shot in 1963, the year the local railway closed to passenger traffic. The commentary describes how some of the local system was originally built by the canal company, the Shropshire Union, whose name still lives on as the canal which was built thirty years earlier and has outlived what was expected to be its successor.
Some other parts of the film were shot in 1966 and judging by the leaves on the trees (but not the wrong type on the line!) it must have been just about when England was winning the World Cup, exactly fifty years ago.
